Kona side of the Big Island

More snorkeling for me today. Fran went on a whale watch boat ride and saw a baby whale breach, which the captain said is rare. There was a hula festival with performances by local groups and hula schools plus some good music. Then headed back in the evening to Mark’s place up in the lush hills on the east/Hilo side, a 2 hour drive.

The third image shows just how dry and barren the land on the west side can be, away from the ocean and tourist areas where they must water a lot!

You guys are having just too much fun — I’m glad. Picture of you and Fran in previous post showed two very relaxed folks. Happy travels.
