Kona Side of the Big Island

25 01 2013

Aloha from the west/Kona side of the Big Island of Hawaii. Amazing how drastically the landscape changed from lush green to dry, desolate, lava rock fields when driving across the island yesterday. Most of the tourists seem to be on this side, where it’s usually sunny. We’re renting a little condo efficiency at Magic Sands which overlooks the ocean. The surf is almost too loud for sleeping!

Went south to an interesting historic site at Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park, or The Place of Refuge, with a great snorkeling spot next door, a lava rock beach called Two-Step Beach by locals. A big sea turtle came in to one of the tidal pools. (The photos are still in the underwater camera.)

Diane, you look so beautiful and happy on all these photos. I love seeing these places thru your eyes.
